Common questions
How do I cancel my subscription?
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Choose First Try Permit and tap Cancel subscription.
Cancel at least a day before your free trial ends to avoid being charged. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. The 1-month pass doesn't renew, so there's nothing to cancel.
I paid, but the app is still locked
Open the plans screen and tap Restore. Make sure you're signed in to Google Play with the same Google account you used to pay. If it's still locked, email us your order number and we'll sort it out.
How do I get a refund or use the Pass Guarantee?
If you didn't pass your state's written test after studying with the app, email us within 14 days of the test with your Google Play order number and a photo or screenshot of your result. The full conditions are in the terms. For other refund requests within 48 hours of a purchase, you can also ask Google Play directly.
How do I change my state?
Open Settings (the gear on the home screen) and tap State. Changing state starts a new diagnostic and plan for that state's test.
My state isn't in the app yet
Pick it from the "Coming soon" list in the app to register your interest, or email us. We're adding states every week, starting with the most requested.
I think an answer is wrong
Tap Report on the explanation panel, or email us with the question. We check every report against the state's current handbook and fix it in the next update.
How do reminders work?
You can turn on one reminder a day at 6 pm in Settings. If you started a free trial, we also remind you the day before it ends. Both need notifications to be allowed for the app in Android settings.
How do I delete my data?
Your progress lives only on your phone, and we can delete the records we hold about your purchases. The steps are in Delete your First Try Permit data below.
Delete your First Try Permit data
First Try Permit doesn't use accounts, so there's nothing to sign out of or close. There are two kinds of data, and you can delete both.
1. Your progress on your phone
Your state, answers, readiness score, plan and reminder settings are stored only on your phone. To delete them right away, uninstall First Try Permit, or open Android Settings → Apps → First Try Permit → Storage → Clear storage.
2. Records we hold
- Email [email protected] with the subject "Delete my data".
- Include your Google Play order number (it starts with GPA.) so we can find your purchase record. If you never bought anything, just tell us roughly when you used the app.
- We'll delete your purchase record from RevenueCat (an anonymous app ID and your subscription history), any analytics data linked to your app install, and our emails with you, then confirm by email within 30 days.
What isn't deleted: Google Play keeps its own order and payment records under Google's privacy policy, and we can't delete those. Deleting your data doesn't cancel a subscription, so cancel it in Google Play first. More detail is in our privacy policy.
